Feature Writer for the Boxing Insight is Mr.Wilson Pitts, an American Boxing coach, who will be discussing with us about the old school, technical aspect of the sport as well as its rich history and interesting facts.

Wilson Pitts is a writer and video producer who lives in Richmond Virginia. As a teenager he made numerous trips to Philadelphia and hung around Joe Frasier’s Gym and worked at a kid’s boxing program at the local PAL. He was befriended by George Benton and it was at this time that Wilson started his lifelong habit of interviewing old fighters and collecting their stories.

Always a teacher, Wilson has specialized in studying fight videos and teaching from them. In the intervening years Wilson was a University professor for seven years and has taught the art of self defense to Police Defensive Tactics instructors, several special operations individuals, and to women stationed overseas in different capacities. Over twenty years ago Wilson developed a method for teaching life lessons and character and leadership building though boxing training that has minimal contact. He designed and helped to start, with Roberto Sharpe and Jamar Clarke, an on-going program in Tompkins Square Park in NYC where young men learn these valuable lessons with no gym, minimal equipment, and no injuries. One of these kids from the park has gone on to compete in traditional amateur boxing contests and has won a Golden Gloves tournament.

Wilson travels widely in the US and conducts camps for instructors of programs for underserved communities in California and New York
